They were known for their electric guitar-driven sound and their incorporation of Latin rhythms into their music. The group was formed in the early 1960s by a group of friends from Santo Domingo, including lead guitarist Johnny Ventura. They quickly gained popularity in the Dominican Republic and throughout the Caribbean, and later toured the United States and South America. Their most famous songs include "El Twist," "El Mango," and "El Rock del Santo." Today, Los Vikings are considered pioneers of rock music in the Dominican Republic and helped to establish a local rock scene that continues to thrive today.
